Arthur Returns Home ([personal profile] apendragon)

He'd been expecting his father to pick him up at the airport, but the driver informed him that Mr. Pendragon was on a business trip, and would not be at home. Everything had been happening so suddenly. It felt like he'd only just been at his mother's funeral and then suddenly he was in another country, another continent. England. Home.

Though in some ways, Florida had seemed like home. He'd been there half his life. He was leaving behind all of his friends, and teammates. Whether they won their division in football was no longer his problem.

The limousine seemed almost silent as it pulled up the winding drive to the impressive manor house. It was much bigger than the house he'd lived in with his father and mother. Arthur knew that his father had been wealthy, but it was much grander than he'd been expecting. He wondered not for the first time why his father had never invited him there before now.

He was met at the door by a pair of servants, one which collected his suitcase from the trunk, the other who was clearly more of a personal assistant, who started rattling off what Arthur would need to know about the house as they swept inside. The main dining room was to the left and dinner was served at 7pm unless there were special arrangements for guests; the main staircase lead to the gallery, and the family bedrooms to the right at the top of the stairs. He opened the door to a room straight across the expansive foyer, introducing it as the drawing room.

Then he was lead up the staircase, to be shown the room that would be his. He proceeded stoically, taking it all in, wondering if he should have been leaving breadcrumbs in his wake. His suitcases were already in his room, stacked neatly at the foot of an enormous four poster bed. A moment later he was alone in the room. He had his own bathroom, more closet space than he needed, a fireplace, a flat screen television, a desk with a new laptop computer. Everything a teenage boy could require. After unpacking his clothes and having a shower, he ventured out to explore the place, hoping he wouldn't get hopelessly lost.

Morgana had been told to expect her brother. Her father was away and a long list of instructions had been left for the staff for his arrival. Morgana thought the whole thing was sort of disgusting. Surely Arthur was still grieving the loss of his mother and he didn't even have a familiar face to meet him back at the mansion. Morgana could relate. When her mother died when she was 10 her father had left her in the care of impersonal nannies and had refused to discuss the matter with her.

So, even though she had never met this strange foreign brother, she took it upon herself to break the ice and be ... well family she supposed. She wasn't really looking forward it because she was certain he wouldn't appreciate a virtual stranger taking an interest in him. Considering she had only found out about Arthur's existence when she'd been told he was moving in, she would be surprised if he even knew he had a sister.

She found him wandering one of the many hallways looking utterly confused. Not a hard thing to become in this maze of a building.

"That leads to the staff kitchen," she announced from behind him.

Arthur nearly jumped at the sound of a voice behind him. He wasn't sure if he was allowed to wander around unaccompanied. He spun around, looking at her, eyes wide. "Oh. Sorry. I must have made a wrong turn." He wasn't normally intimidated by anything, but the enormous house only amplified his overall feeling of being utterly alone in the world. Between that and jet lag, he was considerably off his game.

"I'm Arthur," he said, extending his hand. It seemed like the polite thing to do.

He seemed nice enough. Friendly, polite, and yes extremely lost. Who could blame him?

"I'm Morgana," she told him stepping up to meet him halfway. She glanced at his hand and took it though glanced down with her eyes and nodded her head gesturing downward. "And this is ... unnecessarily formal. I doubt anyone's bothered to mention me. I'm your sister. Half sister."

Arthur blinked. "Um. No. No one's mentioned you. I haven't actually spoken to..." He hesitated, unsure of whether to say 'our father' or not. "Nice to meet you."

It was quite awkward, but he shoved his hands down into his pockets. "This place is slightly intimidating. I suppose you're used to it now, though." His head was spinning at the idea of having a half-sister, but he did his best to be polite.
